Improving Usability on the Product Details Page for Furniture E-Commerce Customers

As a Senior UX Architect for Ashley Furniture Industries, I was tasked with redesigning the product detail page. It is extremely important for this page to have improved usability for customers using mobile devices and customers with disabilities. This page also has an important call to action and goal as it is where the user decides to add to cart. For this project, I worked with a product owner, many stakeholders and a development team, along with the UX team’s design system. The design system was in the beginning stages of being designed, which led to some iterations on the visual details, but I was able to focus on the hierarchy and functionality.

I back every decision I make with research. There’s a reason for everything.

There are many factors that go into a design and not all of those factors are based on the user experience. I do have to yield to business and technical requirements, but any decisions I make are made with research. If I wanted to express my personal opinion, I would get out the pastels. Art is open to interpretation, personal opinion and many feelings. Design is based on psychology, research, testing, WCAG requirements, best practices.

I presented a working prototype with detailed research into all of my decisions. It is currently approved and waiting development.
